retirement visa thailandIf you want to retire in Thailand then you need to start with the correct visa. This visa also known as the OA visa is the retirement visa for Thailand. Its a 3 month visa with a 1 year extension.

There are many retirement visa questions for Thailand that gets asked so we will cover the very basic and often asked questions. Firstly you need to be at least 50 years old in order to obtain a retirement visa for Thailand.  You should also have at least 65,000 Baht a month in income from a pension or otherwise. This needs to be verified by your embassy before it is accepted. You could also deposit 800,000 Baht into a Thai bank account in order to fill this requirement or a combination of the two. If you are going to show proof of the deposit then you need to allow a two month period before you can do so. The Oa visa is a 3 month visa.  Once you enter Thailand you transfer the money into your account in Thailand and then wait 2 monthsbeofre you make the application to extend the visa to a 1 year retirement visa. You need to get the timing correct else you will be out of time and the visa will expire. Once you enter Thailand you have 6 months to bring in any household items from abroad duty free so again you need to have all your ducks in a row when you want to retire in Thailand. Most people who retire in Thailand usually have lived in Thailand for a while in order to settle their housing and banking needs.
